The S9706 digital color sensor for various color detection applications has been launched by Hamamatsu Corp. The device is a monolithic CMOS photointegrated circuit that is sensitive to red (615 nm), green (540 nm) and blue (465 nm) regions of the spectrum. It offers two sensitivity levels: high, which uses the detector’s entire 9 × 9 array of photodiodes, and low, which generates signals from a 3 × 3 area at the center of the array. Applications include display color adjustments, backlight dimmers in LCDs and environmental color temperature detection.
