Andor Technology plc has expanded its line of electron-multiplying CCD cameras with the release of the Luca R. The electron-multiplying gain can be turned on when photons are scarce and turned off under brighter conditions. The device is designed for machine vision, fluorescence microscopy, single-molecule detection and spectral imaging. It features a 1-megapixel sensor, 8 × 8-μm pixels, rates as fast as 12.4 fps and quantum efficiency up to 65%. The camera is TE-cooled, compact and offers a USB 2.0 camera platform. The sensor size is 1002 × 1004 pixels.
