The NI 1722 and NI 1742 smart cameras from National Instruments incorporate an industrial controller, a CCD image sensor and NI vision software to offer image processing directly on the cameras. The embedded devices, capable of returning inspection results instead of raw images, are suitable for machine vision and industrial applications, including locating parts, inspecting packaging, verifying assembly, and reading 1- and 2-D codes. They process images with 400-MHz (NI 1722) and 533-MHz (NI 1742) PowerPC processors that run NI Vision Builder for Automated Inspection software, which is included with the cameras, or the NI LabView Real-Time module and the full suite of NI vision algorithms. The sensor offers VGA resolution (640 × 480) at 60 fps.
