ShellCase RT is a thin, wafer-level chip size packaging technology developed by Tessera Technologies Inc. to benefit OEMs in the production of advanced electronics that integrate cameras. Based on proprietary encapsulation technology, it produces high yields by protecting image sensors and other optical devices from contamination in the initial packaging stage. It is only ∼500 μm thick, enabling low-profile camera modules. It will make possible applications such as the use of cameras in harsh environments, including automotive electronics.
