The Spectra-Physics Lasers Div. of Newport Corp. has launched Solstice, a one-box ultrafast amplifier that outputs an average power of more than 2.5 W at 1 or 5 kHz, high-contrast pulses of <100 fs and a laser beam with an M² value of <1.3. The computer-controlled laser, based on a patented Spitfire Pro XP regenerative cavity design for high performance, can operate in a ±5 °C environment. All-digital timing electronics provide temperature-insensitive long-term stability. The system comprises the Mai Tai ultrafast oscillator and the Empower pump source. Applications include optoelectronic pulse amplifier pumping, multicolor pump-probe spectroscopy, nonlinear optics, and time-resolved and four-wave-mixing spectroscopy.
