The EA-DFB introduced by Opnext Inc. is a 1550-nm electroabsorption distributed feedback laser. It operates at 10 Gb/s and allows the laser chip temperature to vary over the thermal operating range, eliminating the need for a thermoelectric cooler. It has an operating temperature range of 15 to 35 °C, an extinction ratio of >10, a side mode suppression ratio of >35 dB, dispersion of 1600 and an 80-km reach. It is available in a chip-on-carrier or a die package and provides 2 and 5 dB, respectively, of continuous-wave output power.
