A high-power diode laser that produces the beam quality of a CO
2 laser has been released by
Lissotschenko Mikrooptik (Limo) GmbH. The LIMO50-C10×10-DL980 emits 50 W of output power and has a beam size of 10 × 10 mm and a typical beam divergence of 2 × 2 mrad. Power density is 10 MW/cm
2 in a 25-μm spot size. The laser operates with either thermoelectric or tap water cooling. A plug-and-play fiber connector facilitates exchange in the field. The laser is suitable for use in medical, industrial and scientific applications, including micromaterials processing, pumping and microsurgery.
