MVTec Software GmbH has released version 8.0 of its Halcon software library for use in machine vision applications. Its improved optical character reader offers several new features, including syntactic- and lexicon-based autocorrection. A new gradient feature provides a good error ratio, and 3-D object recognition enables use in the automotive industry and in bin picking and other robotic tasks. The 3-D matching feature identifies an object from its CAD model, requiring only one image taken by a single camera. The speed of the entire library has been enhanced by 25%, according to the company.
