AFO Research Inc. has developed next-generation specialty optical glasses for applications in the communications, and medical and commercial laser industries. The company says that the materials’ optical characteristics are superior to those of BK20, ZBLAN, phosphate and FP 20 types, enabling optical device and component manufacturers to develop smaller and higher-performance products. The glasses will be used in WDM and DWDM systems, and in high-power compact and fiber lasers and fiber amplifiers. The medical laser industry will benefit from better-performing compact eye-safe lasers.
