The Dutch company Royal Philips Electronics of Amsterdam has announced that it will acquire TIR Systems Ltd. of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, for Can $74 million in cash. The latter manufactures solid-state lighting systems for general illumination, signage and other purposes, which Royal Philips Electronics hopes will allow it to improve its position in the LED-based lighting field.
