EYE-SAFE LASER
Kigre Inc. has released the MK-88, a diode-pumped eye-safe erbium glass laser. Based on conduction-cooled high-efficiency side-pumped and diode-pumped solid-state lasers, the device is suitable for laser rangefinding, for range-gated imaging and for laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy. It produces 3- to 5-mJ Q-switched pulses that are 1.54 μm at 10 Hz. The output pulse width is approximately 7 ns, while pulse-to-pulse timing jitter is <1 μs. The beam has a raw diameter of 0.8 mm, divergence of approximately 3.5 mrad and wander of <0.5 mrad. Operating from –30 to 50 °C, the laser requires 15 W of conductive cooling for continuous-duty operation.
