Released by VueMetrix Inc., DiodeGuard protects diode lasers operated in series against cascade failure. Its circuitry is designed to prevent catastrophic destruction of the remaining diodes by current surge when one diode in the series shorts, causing a drop in the forward bias voltage of the string. It also prevents intermittent loss of connection between the controller and the laser diodes, caused by a faulty or loose connector. The device clamps the output current at the time of loss, and, when the connection is restored, ramps the current gently back to its steady-state value.
