The Highlight series multikilowatt direct diode laser systems from Coherent Inc. can be used for cladding, heat treating, brazing and welding. The 805- and 940-nm lasers output >4 kW. The CW lasers can function in pulsed mode at up to 350 Hz with up to 1-ms pulsewidths. They are available as turnkey systems and as individual component modules with options of free-space beam shaping, beam delivery optics and custom accessories such as cladding nozzles. The industrial-grade diodes last a minimum of two years.
