Point Grey Research Inc.’s Grasshopper digital cameras have 800-Mb/s IEEE-1394b digital interfaces and large-format progressive-scan Sony CCD image sensors. Available in 1.4-, 2- and 5-megapixel models, the cameras reach maximum frame rates of 1384 × 1036 at 15 fps, 1624 × 1224 at 30 fps and 2448 × 2048 at 15 fps, respectively. Other features include a 14-bit analog-to-digital converter, a 32-MB frame buffer, pixel binning for increased sensitivity and frame rate, and several trigger modes. Each camera comes with the FlyCapture software development kit. Applications include semiconductor inspection, electronics manufacturing, life sciences, microscopy, surveillance and high-speed assembly.
