Mercury Computer Systems Inc. has introduced the Avizo Fire Edition software, which provides 3-D visualization and quantification of materials structures. It enables data import from microscopy, computed tomography scans, MRI, and micro- and positron emission tomography, and it supports multidata/multiview, multichannel, time series and large data sets. It includes 2- and 3-D image filtering modules, slice alignment capability, and automated or assisted segmentation with 3-D surface reconstruction. It enables characterization of features such as phases, grains, particles and pores at a variety of scales, and it incorporates more than 70 measurements, including number counts, volumes, areas and perimeters. It enables the acquisition of data for metallurgical applications, industrial tomography, nanometric measurements, surface analysis, and corrosion and fatigue testing.
