MULTIANODE AVALANCHE PHOTODIODES
Voxtel Inc. has unveiled a line of solid-state silicon photomultipliers. The VIC series compact multianode avalanche photodiodes exhibit gain of ∼10
6, enabling single-photon detection. The devices are suitable for use in fluorescence lifetime imaging, positron emission tomography, nuclear medicine, high-energy physics, radiation detection, lidar, particle sizing and DNA sequencing as well as in other laser induced fluorescence detection applications. The instruments detect weak light at the photon-counting level and are insensitive to magnetic fields. They consist of an array of small-area avalanche photodiodes connected in parallel on a common silicon substrate. Each pixel is quenched passively through individual resistors. Spectral range is from 400 to 1000 nm, maximum quantum efficiency is 85%, fall time is 3.1 ns, and recovery time is 10 ns. Operating temperature is 27 °C, typical.
