Gooch & Housego has combined the corrosion resistance of stainless steel with the power handling capability of aluminum in a patent-pending manufacturing technique dubbed Stallion. The first product based on the technology is a standard Q-switch for use in high-power pulsed laser systems. The company says that the Q-switch, which can be cooled with ordinary water, can extend the lifetime of laser products, reduce production downtime and decrease engineering costs.
