Sony Electronics Inc. has launched the XCD series machine vision cameras, which use the IEEE-1394b interface. Three sets of cameras are offered with resolutions of 640 × 480, 1280 × 960 or 1600 × 1200, and in monochrome or raw color versions. The software driver maximizes the 800-Mb/s bandwidth and enables daisy-chaining of up to 62 cameras with an optional external power supply. The bus synchronization function allows cameras on the same bus to acquire images simultaneously without an external synchronization signal, and the broadcast delivery feature enables simultaneous change of settings to all cameras in the same bus with a single command. The multitrap function enables the cameras to grab up to 15 images with various exposure rates to see objects in different lighting.
