Available from Firecomms Ltd., a 665-nm VCSEL gigabit transceiver delivers data over plastic optical fiber at rates of up to 1.25 Gb/s and is pin-compatible with 1 × 9 optical transceivers for glass fiber. The EDL1000G-510 operates with a single 3.3-V power supply over the temperature range of 0 to 50 °C and is fitted with the OptoLock connector for quick connection of fiber. Because it emits visible light, the transceiver enhances safety and simplifies setup and testing, while its standard multisource 1 × 9 footprint is suitable for drop-in replacement solutions. It has a current-mode-logic-compatible interface and is suitable for 1394 FireWire and Gigabit Ethernet networks.
