ChemImage Corp. of Pittsburgh has received a small business innovation research grant to study silicon carbide-based materials for space-based optics. The Phase I grant will fund a research and development project on the chemical composition, crystalline structure, stress/strain and subsurface damage to silicon carbide-based substrates and optics. The research will be used by the US Air Force for defense purposes.
