A 1550-nm laser chip has been introduced by Modulight Inc. The ML1470 requires 3 A for full optical output beyond 500 mW in continuous-wave operation. It is designed for applications requiring high-power free-space laser beams at eye-safe wavelengths. The laser is housed in a 9-mm TO-can, and the emitting area of the laser die is 150 × 1 μm. It is suitable for operation in both pulsed and CW modes.
