QImaging has introduced the Retiga-EXL, a 30-MHz, 14-bit cooled CCD camera for bioimaging applications. For bandwidth capacity, it features Lightwire 800, an optimized version of the IEEE-1394b protocol that delivers 800-Mb/s bandwidth and enables readout of 15 fps at full resolution. The FireWire camera also can provide 14-bit digital output at 20 and 10 MHz, as well as 8-bit digitization at all three readout frequencies. Variable exposure times range from 10 μs to 17.9 min. Read noise is 6.5 e^– at 10 MHz. The Sony ICX285 interline sensor provides megapixel resolution and high sensitivity. QCapture software is included, and the camera runs on Windows and Mac operating systems.
