POLARIZATION ROTATORS

Featuring no moving parts and offering insertion loss of <3 dB, the PS-LN polarization rotators launched by
Photline Technologies are integrated optics waveguide devices that switch the polarization state of an input light between two linear orthogonal output states at frequencies of up to 10 GHz with up to 20 GHz available upon request. The output light is transmitted on either the fast or the slow axis of the output polarization-maintaining fiber of the component, operating as a transverse electric to a transverse magnetic converter. They are available at various wavelengths, including 1300 and 1550 nm, and for switching bandwidths from 100 MHz to 10 GHz. The rotators are based on a birefringent LiNbO
3 phase modulator whose waveguide is illuminated at 45° of its main axes.
