Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. has released the Helios Zeta double-beam and Helios Omega single-beam UV/VIS spectrophotometers that are designed for research, quality control and teaching applications. USB memory devices provide unlimited method and data storage, and integrated local control software performs fixed wavelength measurements, quantitative analysis, wavelength scanning and multicomponent analysis. The Visionsecurity, Visionlife and Visionpro software interfaces provide advanced PC control. Built-in math functions and the UVcalc spreadsheet feature enable customized data manipulation. Report templates can be created for customized laboratory reporting and documentation of results. The light sources are 1000-h deuterium and 2000-h tungsten lamps. For both instruments, spectral bandwidth is 2 nm, wavelength range is from 190 to 1100 nm, accuracy is ±1 nm, repeatability is ±0.2 nm, scanning speed is from 1 to 3800 nm/min and slew speed also is 3800 nm/min.
