Applied Multilayers Ltd. has introduced a hydrophobic topcoat for its anti-reflection coatings for consumer products, including the display windows on mobile phones and on ATMs. The coating, typically 10 nm thick, will produce a water contact angle ranging from 90° to 110°. The topcoat process is a standard option on all closed-field magnetron optical coating systems from the company. The material is contained in a “pill” and is released onto the substrate by thermal evaporation.
