Trace Technologies Ltd. is offering the PISD (photonic interconnect systems design) fiber optic cable harness design software program for use by aerospace engineers to design, install, test and build harnesses for next-generation aircraft. The company says that fiber optic cabling reduces the weight of aircraft, increases bandwidth for cabin services and improves security, compared with traditional copper cabling. The program was developed and commercialized from well-established processes and technology delivered by aerospace research projects such as LoadNet and the Fibre Optic Harness Study Group. Design issues can be confronted and problems solved onscreen rather than on the aircraft.
