A multipass Raman converter introduced by Light Age Inc. provides wavelength-shift capability for most pulsed laser systems, rendering a variety of Raman shifts practical, including the ones from the UV through the IR that previously were hard to achieve. The device performs high-efficiency wavelength conversion even when multiple shifts are required. Near-IR light at 1 μm yields 6- to 7-μm output in the mid-IR with >30% quantum efficiency. There are no nonlinear crystals involved and no sensitive alignment requirements.
