Deposition Sciences Inc. (DSI), a manufacturer of thin-film optical coatings, offers IsoSphere antireflection (AR) coated ball lenses in a variety of glass indexes in new, larger sizes. The lenses feature very low insertion loss and are available with AR coatings with transmission values of greater than 99.5 percent in indexes of up to nd ball-lens-group-pr.jpg 2.0 @ 550 nm.

DSI now offers the highly durable, scratch-resistant AR coated ball lenses in sizes from 200-µ to 10.0-mm diameter. Suitable for telecommunications and expanded beam connector applications, IsoSphere ball lens products are a mechanically compact optical method for collimating the output of an optical fiber or laser diode. The lenses can be used in fiber-to-fiber, diode-to-fiber or fiber-to- detector coupling tasks.

IsoSphere ball lenses are extremely stable over temperature and humidity variations and severe abrasion, adhesion, humidity and salt fog tests of Mil-C-675 standards. They are resistant to most chemicals and suited for aircraft, oil field exploration, refining, marine, undersea and aerospace applications.

DSI’s IsoDyn low-pressure chemical vapor deposition technology permits a high-performance, uniform optical AR coating over the entire surface of the ball lens.
