Laser Components IG said its Detector Group's new IAE avalanche photodiode (APD) series is suitable for the spectral range from 1000 to 1650 nm.

Compared to germanium APDs, InGaAs (indium gallium arsenide) APDs have a significantly lower noise level in relation to the active area a higher bandwidth, the company said, in addition to advantage of higher sensitivity.
The IAE series has an active area diameter of either 80 or 200 µm. The APD comes in a TO-46 housing or on a ceramic submount that can be easily integrated into a customer’s hybrid system.
With the IAE080x, bandwidths of at least 1 GHz are feasible at a typical capacitance of 1 pF. The internal gain factor is 10, which allows detection of small signals in the IR wavelength and an increased range of “eye-safe“ distance measuring systems.
