Nufern Unveils Fiber Laser
EAST GRANBY, Conn., June 28, 2007 -- Nufern said it hopes its NuFire 200-W ytterbium fiber laser system “will streamline the process of adopting laser-based materials processing in manufacturing environments,” said Bryce Samson, vice president of business development.

The company introduced the system -- its first complete, fully functional industrial fiber laser -- at LASER 2007.World of Photonics last week in Munich, Germany.

Nufern said initial setup of the NuFire 200W fiber laser is easy, with a standard wall plug, air cooling, monolithic architecture, 3RU form factor and remote mountable I/O panel. An intuitive Windows-based interface, including the industry’s first visual waveform generator, simplifies operation and makes method development -- for virtually any application within the 200-W range -- accessible even to nonengineers.

With slew rates of 70 W/µs and precision pulse control to 5 µsec rise/fall time, the NuFIRE laser offers the ability to precisely control and optimize cut and weld quality. A maximum modulation frequency > 120 kHz at full power means enables more power to be delivered to a work piece in a given interval, resulting in higher throughput in a manufacturing environment. Capable of sustained continuous wave or pulsed operation, the NuFire system features four onboard function triggers to switch instantaneously from one custom-shaped waveform to the next, further increasing throughput.

Nufern President/CEO Martin Seifert will host a presentation on specialty fibers, including a 10-year perspective on and projections for the industry, following a tour of Nufern hosted by the New England Fiberoptic Council (NEFC) today at 5:30 p.m. at the company's headquarters in East Granby, Conn.
