Control optical power levels in networks with the Dynamic Attenuator, a new passive device from Molex. Based on a nanoparticle technology introduced by Molex and KiloLambda Technologies, it revolutionizes optical power control techniques. Using a light-scattering mechanism, this new device enables customers to limit output power to a pre-assigned value irrespective of input power level within a dynamic range.
The Dynamic Attenuator functions as a normal fixed attenuator below the input power range, while simultaneously acting as a fuse to protect the network from permanent damage if the input power exceeds the preassigned level. The attenuator is available in the popular LC-male-to-LC-female plug connector configuration to make network installation easy. It can also be readily incorporated within other configurations such as an SC plug-style attenuator package and pigtailed as a cable assembly.
Unique features of the device’s mechanical housing include an internally spring-loaded ferrule assembly that protects non-spring-loaded interfaces, such as those found on transceivers from mating damage; a thumb latch for easy removal and a housing that fits and mates with simplex or duplex LC adapters and connectors.
