AOptix is introducing two laser comnunication terminals with 40 Gb/sec data rates, based on its adaptive optics technology. The company said it is now manufacturing demonstration models of the terminals for use in tactical data links and teleport communications.

The terminals are targeted for both man-portable and mobile applications requiring lightweight, compact features combined with extremely fast data delivery. The LCT-5 terminals are configured for fixed-site terrestrial links from 1 to 20 km. The R3.1 skyball terminals are configured for mobile links to 150 km.

Fixed-site platforms include towers, buildings and man-portable tripods. Mobile platforms include aerostats, UAVs, manned aircraft, ships and ground-based vehicles. Lasercom products use curvature wavefront sensors, deformable (adaptive) mirrors and real-time, closed-loop controls to extract essential beam information, resolve atmospheric distortions and acquire/align bidirectional terminals.

AOptix terminals are used real-time data dissemination for large sensor platforms, instantaneous mobile optical networks, real-time analysis of SAR & EO/IR imaging, communications in radio-frequency-suppressed environments and mobile terabit data storage and data transfer solutions.
