Laser Components IG said its Detector Group's new IAE avalanche photodiode (APD) series is suitable for the spectral range from 1000 to 1650 nm.

d44a14_New-IAE-Series-in-th.JPGCompared to germanium APDs, InGaAs (indium gallium arsenide) APDs have a significantly lower noise level in relation to the active area a higher bandwidth, the company said, in addition to advantage of higher sensitivity.

The IAE series has an active area diameter of either 80 or 200 µm. The APD comes in a TO-46 housing or on a ceramic submount that can be easily integrated into a customer’s hybrid system.

With the IAE080x, bandwidths of at least 1 GHz are feasible at a typical capacitance of 1 pF. The internal gain factor is 10, which allows detection of small signals in the IR wavelength and an increased range of “eye-safe“ distance measuring systems.
