  • dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF)

A type of single-mode optical fiber designed by Corning Glass Works for use in high-bit-rate, long-distance telecommunications systems. The silica-clad fiber has a segmented core that lowers the slope of the dispersion curve at 1550 nm, the wavelength at which silica-based glasses reach their lowest attenuation.
