impedance: Qualitatively, the inverse of the amount of velocity produced by the application of a sinusoidal force to a system; therefore, if velocity is high, impedance at that point is low. Quantitatively, impedance can be expressed as a complex number composed of the ratio of the magnitude of the exciting force, and the phase difference between excitation and the resulting motion.
