  • Monte Carlo simulation

Simulation of radiative transfer in which each photon is generated by a source and its path through the medium is statistically simulated with absorption and scattering probabilities as well as with probabilities associated with angular dependence of scattering. Monte Carlo simulations are based purely off of the random sampling techniques associated with statistics and probability and are applied when trying to model phenomena of uncertainty. In radiative transfer, this uncertainty being the probabilistic directions in which a photon is scattered through a given randomized media such as the atmosphere, or the randomized polarization pattern that an oscillating dipole in the atmosphere may yield.
