  • Nernst glower

Important in the field of spectroscopy, the Nernst glower is a solid-body radiator that is made up of a filament of rare-earth oxides. Heating the filament by continuous ohmic heating results in conduction, allowing the glower to act as a continuous source of near infrared radiation that operates best in spectroscopy applications within the wavelength range of 2 to 14 µm.
