A coating applied to a neutral density glass that is designed to reduce the amount of light evenly across the transmitted light spectrum with no color distortion. These coatings are designed to maintain precise control over the spectral band via light reduction. While neutral density tints achieve their performance through absorption, neutral density coatings achieve light reduction by both reflection and absorption. Neutral density coatings appear gray to the eye and maintain a flat absorption curve throughout the visible spectrum. Metals are generally used for this purpose.
