phosphorography

A process used in pyrometry and photothermometry to create a photographic record of a surface's temperature gradients. Essentially, it involves the exposure of a glowing phosphorescent surface to the test surface's infrared emittances. The phosphorescent surface's glow is quenched in proportion to the amount of infrared radiation incident to it, resulting in a negative image of the test surface's temperature gradients. This image is then photographed or contact printed.
