SPIE Photonics West 2011After a successful debut in San Francisco last year, SPIE Photonics West is returning to the Golden Gate City for what is shaping up to be a hotbed of industry insights, market trends, the latest technologies and, of course, the ever-popular networking and hobnobbing with some of the finest minds in the photonics and optics industry. This year's event, to be held from Jan. 22 to 27, will again be housed at the Moscone Center, located in the heart of San Francisco. SPIE is expecting 18,000 attendees with roughly 1100 exhibitors, making it the leading photonics, laser and biomedical optics event. » Get technical with a new subsymposiumNew this year is a subsymposium on green photonics, hosted by SPIE and presented in virtual format. Returning to Photonics West are the four renowned subsymposia, listed below, that SPIE offers every year.BiOS 2011 - Biomedical Optics: Photonic Therapeutics and Diagnostics; Clinical Technologies and Systems; Tissue Optics, Laser-Tissue Interaction and Tissue Engineering; Biomedical Spectroscopy, Microscopy and Imaging; and Nano/Biophotonics. LASE 2011 - Lasers and Applications: Laser Source Engineering; Nonlinear Optics; Semiconductor Lasers and LEDs; and Laser Micro-/Nanoengineering and Applications. MOEMS-MEMS 2011 - Micro-/Nanofabrication: The latest research in mass-produced miniaturized products and systems of the future will be discussed at this year's event. OPTO 2011 - Integrated Optoelectronic Devices: Optoelectronic Materials and Devices; Photonic Integration; Nanotechnologies in Photonics; Advanced Quantum and Optoelectronic Applications; Semiconductor Lasers and LEDs; Displays and Holography; and Optical Communications: Systems and Subsystems. New! GREEN PHOTONICS VIRTUAL SYMPOSIUM - Energy, sustainability and conservation: The program committee assembled 270 papers that advance the latest developments in sustainable and energy-efficient applications and technologies.
