Catalyst Semiconductor Acquired by ON Semiconductor
Effective immediately, silicon solutions supplier ON Semiconductor Corp. of Phoenix, has completed its acquisition of Catalyst Semiconductor Inc. of Santa Clara, Calif., a markets analog, mixed-signal and non-volatile memory product designer. Under the terms of the agreement, Catalyst stockholders received 0.706 shares of ON Semiconductor’s common stock for each share of Catalyst common stock they own. The Arizona-based company issued approximately 11 million shares for the outstanding California company shares and also assumed its stock-based compensation awards that will result in an additional increase of approximately 2 million shares of ON’s common stock equivalents on a diluted basis. The merger will allow the company to support a broader product portfolio, accelerate revenue growth and increase market share. (10/10/2008)

Electronic Assembly Names Mouser Electronics as Distributor
Electronic component distributor Mouser Electronics Inc. of Mansfield, Texas, has announced it has signed a distribution agreement with Electronic Assembly, of Graefelfing, Germany, an LCD function module supplier. According to the German company, Mouser’s focus on new products for developing technologies, as well as their publication of a catalog every 90 days makes them the appropriate distributor for the company’s line of LCD products. The Texas-based company offers dual in-line package character and graphic modules, fitting LED backlights, control units with touch panels, DIP on glass modules, alphanumeric and graphic modules and intelligent graphic displays. Agilent and Aeroflex Microelectronic Partner for RF Solutions
Agilent Technologies Inc. and Aeroflex Microelectronic Solutions have announced a strategic alliance that will deliver RF and microwave components, and multi-chip module solutions to the military. Based in Santa Clara, Calif., Agilent is a measurement company dealing in communications, electronics, life sciences and chemical analysis. Aeroflex, which is based in Plainview, NY, manufactures integrated circuits and packaging, motion control and motors, microwave and RF devices, components and subsystems. According to both companies, Agilent’s MMICs (Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit) combined with Aeroflex’s packaging and test capabilities will produce RF solutions for aerospace, satellite and military applications. Trumpf Group Assumes Control Over SPI Lasers
Ditzingen, Germany-based machine tool and laser manufacturer Trumpf GmbH + Co. KG announced it assumed control of SPI Lasers effective Oct. 7, 2008. Trumpf submitted the bid, which became effective after SPI shareholders approved the sale of more than 90 percent of the Southampton, England-based company’s shares to Trumpf (See: Trumpf Acquiring SPI Lasers) . Fiber laser maker SPI has a global distribution network which Trumpf intends to maintain and expand. (10/8/2008)
