Laser Light Engines: Funding to Drive Commercialization
The receipt of $9 million in venture funding — with an additional $6 million anticipated from new investors — will drive commercialization of its high-power RGB laser illumination systems, Laser Light Engines Inc. said.
Laser Light Engines CEO John O’Hara said the latest funding round, from existing and new investors, will support product rollouts and strengthen the engineering, sales and manufacturing operations. The company has received $27 million in private funding since its inception in 2008.
The technology offers despeckling solutions for existing silver screens as well as a new laser-enabled 3-D system that increases brightness and eliminates the need for a silver screen. The application was introduced at the NAB Technology Summit on Cinema in April in Las Vegas and is currently in beta testing.
O’Hara also welcomed new board member Dick Post, whom he said has a strong background in operations that will help guide the company during its global rollout. Post, who founded two technology companies, including NEXX Systems and Applied Science & Technology, was a senior research scientist at MIT in the 1980s and is an active investor in high technology companies, LLE said.
