Aegis Lightwave, Photop Technologies Brands Merge

II-VI Inc. subsidiaries Aegis Lightwave and Photop Technologies announced Monday that they have merged under the Photop brand. Massachusetts-based Aegis Lightwave will now operate as Photop Aegis Inc. Its subsidiary in Australia, AOFR Pty Ltd., has been renamed Photop AOFR Pty Ltd.

The merger will allow the affiliates to better serve an expanding and global customer base with coordinated sales, marketing, applications engineering and product development activities using the companies’ combined resources and expertise, they say. The joint product portfolio of the combined companies will be presented as one Photop product portfolio, with each product carrying the same brand identity.

Photop Aegis GM Chris Koeppen said the merger will allow it to use the Photop brand to accelerate global sales of its optical channel monitors used in optical networks and its fused fiber devices for fiber lasers used in materials processing applications.

Photop Technologies CEO John Ling said the partnership will enable further development of its product portfolios and market penetration worldwide, adding that Photop is rapidly becoming a leading player of optical components and photonic products dedicated to the markets of communications, industrial applications and the life sciences.

Photop Technologies became a subsidiary of engineered materials and optoelectronics components maker II-VI in 2010 (See: II-VI to Acquire Photop), and Aegis Lightwave became a subsidiary in 2011 (See: II-VI Acquires Aegis Lightwave).

Photop Aegis and Photop AOFR transferred their main manufacturing operations to Photop Technologies facilities in Fuzhou efficiently and with little impact to the customer base, the companies say.
