Guernsey Coating Lab Marks 30 Years
Guernsey Coating Laboratories (GCL) is celebrating 30 years in the photonics industry as a manufacturer of vacuum deposited optical coatings.
Driven by a desire to improve the performance and development of quality thin films, Peter Guernsey began operations in 1982 in Dana Point with an 18-in. vacuum system focusing on just a few applications as MgF
2, enhanced aluminum and bare aluminum, with each substrate individually inspected, cleaned and evaluated. In 1984, GCL moved to Ventura, expanding its facility from a one-chamber shop to a manufacturing plant.
The company uses resistance source thermal deposition, electron beam, ion assisted electron beam and ion beam sputtering techniques to deliver coatings that cover the wavelength spectrum from ultraviolet to the near-infrared.
