NeoPhotonics Ships First Modules from New Factory in China
Photonic integrated circuit manufacturer NeoPhotonics Corp. has announced the first shipment of optical transceiver modules from its new, high-capacity factory in China.
“This milestone represents our commitment to our customers for production capacity to support their increasing need for high-speed optical modules in the accelerating buildout of broadband network infrastructure around the world,” said Chairman and CEO Tim Jenks. “Rapid growth in cloud computing, video and mobile applications is driving increased demand for optical modules in datacenter, 4G/LTE networks and FTTx deployments, both in established markets as well as emerging regions, such as the BRIC [Brazil, Russia, India and China] countries.”
The new factory, located in Dongguan, Guangdong Province, has about 80,000 sq ft of production space, including approximately 50,000 sq ft of cleanroom area. The production lines use state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment for optical subassembly fabrication and final module assembly and test. Modular work cells designed to support rapid reconfiguration of production lines are also available, enabling quick reaction to the changing needs for optical modules for high-speed communications worldwide.
The company also has facilities in Shenzhen, China, in Tokyo and in Silicon Valley, Calif.
