NKT Photonics Grants PCF Tech License
NKT Photonics has licensed parts of its photonic crystal fiber (PCF) technology to PicoQuant GmbH for use in PicoQuant’s new Solea supercontinuum lasers. The covered patents include NKT’s fundamental methods for drawing and processing the fibers for use in such systems.
“We were looking for the perfect partner helping us to develop a freely triggerable supercontinuum laser,” said PicoQuant CEO Rainer Erdmann. “As the pioneers of this technology and the company with the broadest portfolio, NKT was a perfect choice.” PicoQuant specializes in pulsed diode lasers, single-photon counting and fluorescence instrumentation.
“Supercontinuum lasers are used in countless applications within, e.g., bioimaging and optical characterization,” said NKT Photonics CEO Jakob Skov, adding that PCF technology is the backbone of several high-performance product areas such as supercontinuum lasers and high-power pulsed fiber lasers.
The license allows PicoQuant to use NKT Photonics fibers to make supercontinuum light sources featuring a gain-switched laser diode.
