Embedded VISION Europe Gathers Developers, Users

Europe’s sole conference focused exclusively on embedded vision, Embedded VISION Europe 2019, will take place Oct. 24-25 at the ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart in Germany.

Europe's sole conference focused exclusively on embedded vision, Embedded VISION Europe 2019, will take place October 24-25 at the ICS International Congress Center in Stuttgart, Germany, where it debuted in 2017.
Organized by the European Machine Vision Association (EMVA) with support from Messe Stuttgart, the host of the biennial VISION trade fair, the conference explores how embedded vision technologies can be used in a vast variety of industries. The event is aimed at both developers and users from all industries and fields, offering presentations and discussions that will engage engineers, entrepreneurs, analysts, and researchers alike.

The conference will focus on embedded vision and its capability in hardware and software platforms, and will showcase applications and potential markets. Ten topics of discussion are planned for the congress: novel processor concepts for edge devices; deep learning training data best practice; deep learning use cases for manufacturing; novel image acquisition concepts; extending the visible: 3D, hyperspectral, and IR; cloud concepts for automation; applications in autonomous navigation; applications in factory automation; applications in logistics and warehousing; and applications in agriculture.

Intel’s David Austin to deliver keynote

The conference’s keynote speaker is David Austin, senior principal engineer at Intel Corp. His presentation, “Flexible and Practical AI for Industrial Deployment,” will discuss the challenges that industrial AI-based solutions face to keep up in the industry because of the nature of product development and validation cycles in comparison to the speed at which AI technology advances. The talk will also give insights into the AI and computer vision tools and techniques that can pose solutions.

Other notable speakers include Andrea Dunbar, head of embedded vision systems at CSEM, presenting “Autonomous Data-Logger with ULP Imager” about a vision system that combines an ultralow-power imager, embedded intelligence, and custom optics to offer new perspectives in fields such as remote security and perimeter control; Neil Trevett, vice president of developer ecosystems at NVIDIA, introducing “APIs for Accelerating Vision and Inferencing: An Industry Overview of Options and Trade-Offs”; and Pierre Gutierrez, lead machine learning researcher at Scortex, discussing “The Challenges of Deploying Deep Learning for Visual Quality Inspection.”

Michael Engel, president of Vision Components GmbH, will discuss “MIPI Cameras: New Standard for Embedded Vision,” offering possible application fields in embedded vision for MIPI (mobile industry processor interface) camera modules. Topics such as deep learning in printed circuit board inspection, the evolution of machine vision, and the setup of embedded systems will be covered at the conference by leaders in the field.

A tabletop exhibition of innovative products and services will be featured, providing a platform for networking and information exchange. There will be demos of the latest technologies, tools, and products. Embedded VISION Europe 2019 will also host co-organized workshops and startup pitch presentations. Companies confirmed to attend include Vision Components GmbH, The Imaging Source, PHYTEC, Active Silicon Ltd., and Allied Vision Technologies.
