Metabolic profiling
Bruker BioSpin Corp. has released the NMR Metabolic
Profiling Database for metabolite identification and quantification. Developed collaboratively
by Bruker, food and pharmaceutical companies, and universities involved with metabolomics,
the resource contains information on common endogenous metabolites in such body
fluids as urine, blood and cerebral spine fluid, and on known metabolites of some
over-the-counter drugs and selected food components. Data for the metabolites includes
measurements at a number of pH levels. Emphasis is placed on 2-D NMR experiments
because of the complexity of biofluid spectra. The database interfaces with the
company’s TopSpin or Amix software platforms and augments the integrated Metabolic
Profiler, a system that combines NMR with time-of-flight mass spectrometry.
