Jena, Germany-based medical technology company !%Carl Zeiss Meditec%! announced that it started the 2011/2012 financial year (end of reporting period Dec. 31, 2011) with revenue growth of 13.5 percent year on year. It generated revenue of $278.4 million in the first quarter (previous year: $245.2 million). The company reported growth in all of its strategic business units and reporting regions, which helped expand its profitability. The Microsurgery and Surgical Ophthalmology units contributed to the revenue increase with growth of 23.3 percent each. Combined revenue in Europe, the Middle East and Africa increased by 18.6 percent, driven particularly by business in Eastern Europe.
