Leica, NovoPath to Integrate Histology Systems
Leica Biosystems and software firm NovoPath Inc. of Princeton, N.J., plan to team up to integrate systems for enhanced labelers, stainers and other histology equipment for pathologists.
Leica’s Cerebro Specimen Tracking system tracks and verifies the identity of specimens. NovoPath’s Anatomic Pathology Laboratory Information System (APLIS) is an information infrastructure that registers specimens, records microscopic findings and disseminates them to the intended recipients across the whole health system.
Integrating the two systems will help reduce human identification errors and identify problems before they lead to any patient safety risks, and will enable labs to electronically track samples from specimen receipt to results delivery, Leica said.
